Alternative Drinking Spots in London

LONDON UNDERCOVER: ALTERNATIVE DRINKING SPOTS

Going into 2016 you may be thinking that you need to try a few new things. If you are looking for a New Year alternative to your usual go-to pubs and bars, then read on. If, like us, you are abstaining from dry January then we have the solution to your boozy wanderlust.

London provides the enthusiastic drinker and social butterfly with lots of options; from regenerated pumping stations to rooftop bars with views over the city, our capital has it all. With all this in mind, we went about putting together a list that will take you away from the norm. All in London, all different; it’s time to drink in our alternative drinking spots. Whether its leather sofas and cocktails or a brooding basement bar with a pool table, we have you sorted.

ORIGINAL SIN, STOKE NEWINGTON

Nearest tube stop: Manor House
Nearest train station: Stoke Newington

There’s more to this basement bar than brooding, low key lighting. Excellent live music, great cocktails and an all-girl bar staff adds to the impressive aesthetics. What is also impressive is that the pool table is completely free to play; a rare concession in this city.

PURL, MARYLEBONE

Nearest tube stop: Baker Street
Nearest train station: Marylebone

Pitched as one of London’s best underground bars, Purl is a gem of a night out. The real reason you come here is for the experimental cocktail list; so be prepared for fire, liquid nitrogen and loud noises. The brickwork, chandeliers and leather sofas add to the charm.

EAST LONDON LIQUOR COMPANY, VICTORIA PARK

Nearest tube stop: Mile End
Nearest train station: Cambridge Heath

Situated next to Victoria Park in Bow Wharf, this London distillery produces, imports and serves unique craft spirits. The vast interior is impressive too; the rustic wood cladding and exposed metalwork looks and feels like it’s staying to true to the original building. Worth a trip East.
