Shepherds Hut, Crake Trees Manor

As anyone who has ever visited the Lake District before will know, as beautiful as the area is, it is almost 99% certain to pour down with rain for the majority of your stay.

With this in mind, you’d have to be a lunatic to bring out the tent in such conditions. The owners of Penrith’s Shepherds Hut clearly had this in mind when putting together their picturesque hut based on the sheep farms of the area in the 19th century.

With Scandinavian decor, a comfy bed and hot shower, let alone a small balcony to quaff a bottle of the local ale, it’s a far cry from your usual camping fodder.

Tinywood Homes, Lincoln

This picturesque glamping pod by the lakeside in Lincolnshire is kitted out with all the mod cons to give you a real home away from home. As well as bedrooms, small kitchen and living area inside the pod, Tinywood Homes also feature a fixed gazebo which provides cover for a heated hot tub and wood fired dining area. Due to the clever use of space, worthy of George Clarke’s Channel 4 show, all of the above is enclosed in a neat, compact package, and is well worth a visit.

The Mollycroft, Yorkshire

Formerly a showman’s touring van, this (now static) caravan in sprawling Yorkshire is every bit as extravagant as the individuals who once travelled in it. Multiple sofas, a gas hob and even Wi-Fi will ensure this turquoise camper suits your every need. There’s even a fire pit should you wish to get a bit more primeval about it all.
