Ben Sherman Crisis Session - Kioko

This week, we share with you the second band joining us for our series of instore gigs with the homeless charity Crisis in the runup to Christmas. Famed for the effortless way in which they blend musical genres, Birmingham six-piece Kioko will be hitting their hometown store on December 14th. We caught up with the band in advance of the gig to find out a little bit more about what makes them tick, and the reasons why they teamed up with Ben Sherman and Crisis.

Midlands-based Kioko are a six-piece, multicultural pop and reggae act with something to say. Carrying on the legacy of their reggae forefathers, the band combine danceable rhythms and big melodies with lyrics heavy with sociological and political ideas. Kioko look to activate the mind and feet in equal quantities.

Speaking in advance of the show, Kioko’s Ben Torrens told us:

“Kioko are proud to be working alongside Crisis and Ben Sherman for this campaign. The prevalence of homelessness in the UK is one of the country’s biggest tragedies and also one of its biggest failings. We believe it is a moral imperative for our society to solve the problem of homelessness and to prevent it from ever happening again, so for us it’s great to be able to raise awareness of some of the fantastic work Crisis is doing both directly and indirectly to help those without a home.

“For this event to be sponsored by Ben Sherman is an added bonus for us, as their iconic legacy is inextricably linked with the ska and two-tone culture from which we draw inspiration, not to mention the fact we love the clothes.”

Continue to support Crisis by purchasing an ‘Everybody In’ tee where £5 from the sale of each t-shirt will be donated to Crisis to support their work to end homelessness.
